Our Heritage Clones bottling from Savoy Vineyard is a special selection of the 2014 planting of some of the oldest clones of Pinot Noir grown in California. These precocious younger vines have a bold fruit-forward character that is distinct from the more mature plantings at Savoy. An alluring perfume of bright strawberry, cherry, and hibiscus greets the taster. The palate is silky with intense flavors of pomegranate, Santa Rosa plum, and blood orange. This is perhaps the most red-fruit-driven Pinot Noir we have ever produced from Savoy.
Wine Profile
Vineyard Notes
Savoy Vineyard, long recognized as a benchmark vineyard in Anderson Valley, is located in the “Deep End” of the valley, west of the town of Philo. The maritime influence and moderate daytime temperatures contribute to the wine’s elegant flavor profile and silky tannins. This blend is a barrel selection from subsections of the vineyard that showcase the most striking qualities of California’s heritage clones. This vintage is made up of five barrels of Mt Eden, Calera, and Swan clones from younger blocks of the vineyard.
Production Notes
The grapes were harvested on September 6th at an average of 23.8° Brix. After a three-day cold soak at 50°F and seven-day primary fermentation peaking at 90°F, the grapes were pressed promptly.
